Teacher Announcements:
LAST HISTORY UNIT IN THE BOOKS: We have finished our last official world history unit ("Ancient India & Persia"). I will now be working with students on "transition activities" to help prepare them for Grade 7: World Geography. We will be working on the Americas using the Classroom Atlas booklets the last week of school. Grading and posting of Ch. 5 work is ongoing and will be completed NLT June 12.
THE TEXTBOOKS ARE IN!!! Virtually all students have turned in their assigned social studies textbooks from the beginning of the year. A big thank you to the parents for helping to remind students to return their subject textbooks.
THIS IS IT!!! I will not be updating this website again this year, as SY 14 - 15 is on the verge of completion. Students, I hope that you found the website useful, and even fun, in your efforts to learn about the fantastic early civilizations of the world. Parents, I hope that you found the website informative and useful, especially in communicating what was going on in class on a weekly basis. It has been my pleasure having your son or daughter in my class this year. Have a great summer and good luck in 7th grade next year, whether you are at Andersen M.S. again, or somewhere else.

Parents may access Gradespeed via the hyperlink listed further below on this web page (Gradespeed Parent Portal). If you need assistance registering to use Gradespeed please contact the school at 366-3880. Please note that all students have access to Gradespeed on their own, and can review their progress in their classes at any time they wish.
Weekly Homework:
Students are expected to study their Cornell Notes for 10 minutes, once a week (minimum). Please check your child's agenda regularly for specific homework information.
Weekly Extra Credit:
In my classes all students are provided with extra credit opportunities on a weekly basis. Students are taught a social skill at the beginning of every unit to work on in their cooperative groups. Currently we are working on the social skill, "Negotiating" (Ch. 5). Whenever we have cooperative learning activities, students are reminded to model/practice the social skill with their partner to earn extra credit to be applied at the end of the quarter.
Every week we do cooperative learning activities, so every week they can earn extra credit toward their social studies grade. The last assignment I post for the Quarter will be titled, "Extra Credit". At this time, I will enter the points they have earned as their "score". All points earned will be applied to their overall quarter grade. For example, a student earned 6 extra credit points from practicing the social skills taught throughout the quarter with their partner. At the end of the quarter, their quarter grade is 75% (C) without the extra credit. When the extra credit is applied, 75% + 6% = 81%. The student's final grade for the quarter is 81% (B-).
